Dolomites
Being from the states, every location around the country comes with its own sense of infancy. While having its own unique history; each town, city and state has existed in such a small period of time when compared to the regions around the world whose history spans thousands of years. We spent a few weeks traveling throughout northern Italy and the small towns tucked away in the valleys of the Dolomites. The old towns, topped with architecture that echoed thousands of years of history left the impression of a place that I’ve wanted to travel to since I was old enough to want anything. Photographing Autumn in this part of the world showed off a familiar season in a very unfamiliar part of the world
There aren’t many places around the world where you can spot Golden Larches. The mountains and valleys were covered in a golden coat of color that went on as far as the eye could see. There were a hand full of lakes in the area that I have always wanted to capture, and when you add the intense color in each direction it left a sight that surpassed all expectations. We started the day off with an early morning ascent around 4:30am. When we got to the top we managed to find a spot along the mountain side just in time to watch the sunrise do its thing.
You know, whoever created that old saying “People make places” must have known some pretty cool people. We enjoyed sunrise and sunset around some of the most razor sharp mountain ranges that I have ever seen. To top it all off, we met up with some friends both local, as well as from different parts of Europe to enjoy hikes along the mountain side, as well as a view that left us speechless.
